Just For Fun Cruising Race
One of the days when the "Real" racers are out doing their thing,
there will be a "Fun Race For Cruisers". Details are yet to be defined,
but the overall philosophy of the race will be "If you care who wins, you
should not enter.".
We will race from Buzzards Bay just outside of Sippican Harbor
(Marion Harbor) to some near by destination where we will eat
(maybe a clam bake), swim, socialize, and play.
Finally, we'll head back to base for the official evening events.
The race will take place on Wednesday August 6th unless the weather
conditions are not good for a fun race. The alternate race date will be
Thursday August 7th.
There will be a number of official trophies for this event.
Likely trophies:
First, Second, Third and Forth place finishers.
Last boat to finish within the time limit.
Most crew on board. (Some minimum age required)
Number of crew will be divided by boat length (feet)
Some consideration given to pets over 10 lbs.
Youngest and Oldest unassisted sailing crew.
Farthest distance traveled during the race while still
finishing within the time limit.
(Requires a GPS/Chart Plotter that will record this information, or
a hand written log listing known bouys and landmarks.)
Winner excluded from "Last boat to finish" trophy.
Farthest distance trailered to get to event.
Farthest distance sailed to get to event.
Trophies will only be awarded to boats that finish the race within
(the very liberal) time limit.
To qualify for the youngest or oldest crew trophies, only one or two
crew members may do any of the sailing, and they can not be coached by other
non-sailing crew members. For two person crews, their ages will be averaged.
